Everybody needs Sales skills, even if Sales is not your profession.

That’s what an interesting article from Harvard Business Review writes. “In everyone’s career, even if you’re not a salesperson, you’ll have to sell something – an idea, your team or yourself”

So improving your sales skills is a necessity, especially if you don’t pitch often.

Here are several do’s and don’ts to keep in mind:

Do:

– First examine your personal motivation and the (business) problem of your discussion partner.

– Train, practice and analyze your pitch. Understanding where your strengths and weaknesses lie ensures that you always improve.

– Understand your counterpart, ask the right questions.

Don’t

– Do not appear tense, you avoid this by knowing your product and yourself well.

–  Do not talk about over- delivering and definitely do not brag: focus on delivering added value for your conversation partner.

– Don’t get insecure because of a lack of success: think of the bigger picture, keep looking for opportunities and keep trying.
